This is the 6th consecutive year that the PLU has organised Phuket Pride since it started in 1999 by Khun Daeng from Boat Bar.
For the past five years, PLU’s Phuket Pride’s Celebration has raised over 1.6 Million baht to help in bringing the rate of HIV down to zero. The Pride theme chosen for this year’s Pride: Be Strong – Be Healthy – Be Happy reflects the changes in attitudes of our LGBT brothers and sisters in Thailand and South East Asia.
PLU’s successes have not only been through the continued support of our sponsors, community members and visitors but through key businesses and individuals in our Phuket Thai Community. This year we are proud to announce that Karex Berhad will be receiving our Citizenship Award for their continued support in providing over 250,000 condoms and lube for our safer sex campaign. Without this type of business support, we would not be moving towards the Thai Health Department’s Goal of getting the rate of HIV down to zero.
For the past two years, besides acknowledging the support from Thai organizations or businesses, we have awarded a Community Service Award to and individual who has shown a true commitment to helping us reach our goal of creating a healthier life for our Thai LGBT Community in Phuket. This year we are proud to be awarding Ms Nutsuda Rodchong “Khun Ya” the Public Health Technical Officer for Phuket’s Provincial Health Department with this honour. She has been instrumental in assuring to our club and community that the health of our LGBT community will always be in the forefront of the HIV fight in Phuket.
